Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity

​

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call their home. We believe affordable housing plays a role that is critical in building strong and stable communities. With the help of local community members, Habitat homeowners will achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Richmond Habitat has been serving our community for 37 years and counting, providing financial literacy and education training, and selling safe and affordable homes to over 380 local families in need.

In 2023, Richmond Habitat proudly launched its first PRIDE Build to invite members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to help build a home for a family or individual in need. Habitat’s PRIDE Build focuses on building an inclusive Richmond community where every individual and family has the opportunity to obtain fair and equitable housing – and where LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies all know they are welcome to come build community.

The Doorways

​

More than a place to stay near the hospital, The Doorways is a home away from home for patients and their families receiving medical care in Richmond, Virginia. The Doorways provides a healing, emotionally supportive environment for those who need to be close to the hospital but not far from the feeling of “home.” The Doorways is Richmond’s premier provider of temporary lodging and non-medical services to patients and their families referred through participating Richmond-area hospital partners, including VCU Health, Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Virginia Treatment Center for Children, Sheltering Arms Institute, Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Richmond VA Medical Center.
