Genesis Consulting Partners, LLC is proud to announce that Director of Agile Training Beth Hatter (Twitter: @Beth_AgileBrain) has been named Program Director of Conference Allyship for the Women in Agile Conference and Women in Agile EU. Women in Agile is a global community effort to drive equality and inclusion of diversity representation, expertise, and involvement in the agile community. The community leads a collective effort to recruit, network, promote, and support the work of outstanding women in the agile community through blogging, speaking at events, and building a network surrounded by people of all genders.
Why is this role important?
Conference allyship is one of the three key focus areas for Women in Agile. This is important as agile conferences, which are led by a variety of organizers, and are one common source of networking, learning, and education across the agile community. Women in Agile supports conferences with the purpose of making gatherings more safe, inclusive, diverse and worthwhile for all.
What is your vision for the role?
My vision as the conference allyship director is to continue to build valuable and meaningful connections across the agile community through supporting diverse, inclusive events. Women in Agile has developed a code of conduct that we share and expect our events to follow and uphold, and this code of conduct strives to make events inclusive and welcoming to all who attend.
I hope to continue to transform what conferences look like, both in speakers as well as attendees, to represent the diverse experiences and backgrounds that are found within the agile community, but that are often not represented. These diverse ideas lead to better solutions, and we hope that improving diversity in conferences will lead to positive changes in our workplaces, our communities, and our world.
What are some goals as Conference Allyship Director?
As the new conference allyship director, I have many goals for the upcoming year. My focus areas include:
Having more voices represented through building greater diversity across speakers at events
Providing speaker fee transparency
Providing sponsorship to events
Promoting a universal code of conduct for Women in Agile sponsored events
Making gatherings safe and inclusive for all
As a global collective, Women in Agile has set lofty goals, and it will take all the wonderful volunteers, members, and allies across the entire agile community to help reach them and make the agile community even better.
